Bafang is used in many e-bikes. Finding the right part is the hard part.
Bafang supplies motors, batteries, displays and controllers to many bike brands. That is why one part often comes in several versions: 36 or 43 volts, UART or CAN, a different cable length or plug. If you order the cheapest part online, you regularly end up with a version that just doesn't fit or doesn't talk to the rest of the bike. Which bikes have a Bafang system?
You can't always tell from the outside, because the brand on the frame is the bike brand. Often the motor, battery or display says "Bafang" or shows a type number such as M400, M420 or DP C18. We supply Bafang parts for these brands, among others:
Amslod: many models run on the Bafang M400 mid-drive motor, with a Bafang battery and display. See also our Amslod page.

Which Bafang battery fits your bike?
Most e-bikes with a Bafang mid-drive motor run on a 43 volt battery. The rear rack battery comes in three capacities. The more watt-hours (Wh), the further you go. The Bafang battery 600 Wh sits right in the middle.

What is the difference between UART and CAN?
Your motor, display, controller and battery talk to each other in their own "language". Bafang has two: UART and CAN (also called CANbus). The 450, 600 and 750 Wh rear rack batteries work with both. For other parts it has to match: a CAN display does not work with a UART motor, and the battery slide (the part on the rear rack the battery clicks into) comes in a UART and a CAN version.

E-bike not working? How to find out which part it is
Most faults on a Bafang system come down to four parts. If the bike doesn't go as far or no longer charges, it is usually the battery or the charger. If the display won't turn on or shows an error code, it is often the display, a cable or the controller. If pedal assistance drops out while the battery is full, it is often the speed sensor or the torque sensor. If the motor makes noise or no longer pulls, it is the motor itself. Often it already helps to switch the bike off, take the battery out and put it back. If the problem comes back, have a service point find the cause, so you don't order the wrong part.
Bafang M400 or M420: which motor do you have?
The Bafang M400 (also called Max Drive) is a 250 watt mid-drive motor used in city and touring bikes from several brands, including Amslod. The M420 looks similar, but has a different torque sensor (G330 on the M400, G332 on the M420). Both motors come in different voltages and in a UART and a CAN version, and those are not interchangeable.
Error code on your Bafang display
An error code means the system detects a fault, for example in the motor, the controller or a sensor. Switch the bike off, take the battery out and put it back. If the code keeps coming back, write it down and contact us or go to a service point.
What about the warranty?
You get a 2-year warranty on the original Bafang parts you buy from us. Is your bike still new and covered by the bike brand's warranty? Then first contact the shop where you bought it.

About Bafang parts and repair
That depends on three things: the voltage (usually 43 volts with a mid-drive motor), the mount on your bike and the version, UART or CAN. Send us a photo of the label on your current battery, and we will look up the right battery for you. That way you never order a battery that just doesn't fit.
According to the product information, the 600 Wh rear rack battery takes you about 90 to 180 kilometres. That is a wide range, because it depends on your weight, the assist level, the wind, the tyre pressure and the weather. If you mostly ride in the highest level or into a headwind, expect the lower end. For comparison: the 450 Wh battery manages ±60–90 km and the 750 Wh battery ±113–225 km.
Usually not. UART and CAN are two different systems the parts use to talk to each other. A CAN display does not work with a UART motor, and a UART battery slide does not work on a CAN bike. The exception is the Bafang 450, 600 and 750 Wh rear rack batteries: they work with both. For other parts, always check which version you have, or ask us.
Yes. Many Amslod bikes run on the Bafang M400. Since Amslod went bankrupt, parts are hard to find, but we supply original Bafang parts for these bikes. Also take a look at our Amslod page or find a service point near you.
It can be the battery, but more often it is a sensor: the speed sensor at the rear wheel or the torque sensor in the motor. A loose plug or a damaged cable can also be the cause. First check that the magnet on your spoke still sits close to the sensor. If that doesn't help, have the bike checked by a service point.
