Amslod battery replacement
Is your Amslod not getting as far as it used to, or has the battery stopped charging? This page shows you how to tell when a battery needs replacing — and just as important, how to tell when it's not the battery at all. It's usually the most expensive part of the bike, so it's worth being sure.

THE SIGNS
How to tell your Amslod battery needs replacing
These are the signs we see most often:
Age
An e-bike battery loses roughly 8 to 10 percent of its capacity a year. You'll notice it yourself: a full charge no longer takes you as far as it did.
Visible Damage to the Battery
Has the battery been dropped, or is there a dent in the casing? An impact can damage the cells inside even when the outside looks fine. Always replace the battery in that case, for fire safety: a fire can start without warning, sometimes weeks or months later.
Leaks, odors, heat, smoke, or sparks
Stop charging immediately if you notice leaking, a strong smell, excessive heat, smoke or sparks.
A BMS Malfunction
Every battery has a Battery Management System (BMS): the circuit board that keeps the battery safe and manages the cells. That board can fail. It can sometimes be replaced, depending on the type of battery. For safety reasons, always have this kind of repair done by a specialist.
Deep Discharge
This happens when a battery has been left unused for a long time and drains completely.
A Broken Charging Port
Using the charger incorrectly, or seating the battery wrong in the bike, can break the charging port. A specialist can sometimes replace it — as long as the battery stays watertight afterwards.
A Broken Battery Lock
Battery locks break often too. In most cases they can simply be replaced.
BEFORE YOU ORDER
It looks like the battery — but is it?
The battery is often the decorative part of the bike. Therefore, it is good to first check other components for proper functioning.
The charger may have failed, so the battery never really charges. Or the controller is broken, or the wiring at the controller has worked loose.
Check those three before you order a new battery. It saves you buying one you didn't need.

About Amslod batteries
Amslod batteries are built to last at least five years. In practice we see most batteries manage between 500 and 1,000 charge cycles.
Some service points offer battery repair. Only have it done by a certified specialist — both the quality and the safety of the battery afterwards depend on it.
Yes. We stock a range of used batteries, and every one is tested for capacity and quality before we sell it.
Yes. Most batteries can be read with diagnostic software, which tests whether the battery works and shows how much capacity is left. Many of our affiliated service partners can do this, and we have the equipment in-house.
We don't refurbish batteries ourselves — we sell new and tested used ones. If you want your current battery refurbished or repaired, we'll point you to a service point. Always have that done by a certified specialist, for the quality and safety of the battery afterwards.
